FAQs

How it all works

We are seeking professional process servers nationwide, particularly in California. Our contractors must have at least six months of experience as a process server or court runner, be registered in their respective county (or, if outside CA, appropriately registered or licensed as per jurisdiction rules). Both agencies and individuals are encouraged to apply.

How does the application process work?

To become a contractor, click on the relevant links on this page to access our brief application form. You’ll need to present valid credentials and photo ID for identity verification. After a swift staff review and signing our Independent Contractor Agreement, approved applicants can set up their ServeManager accounts and start receiving tasks from One Legal and our partners.

What types of jobs will I be performing as a contractor?

Our contractors have the option to take on service of process, physical court filing, and/or courtesy copy delivery tasks. You can choose to handle any of these services individually or a combination thereof.

What is ServeManager and how will it help me in my work?

ServeManager is the software that powers the One Legal contractor network. It is where you’ll receive jobs from us, provide attempt updates, sign affidavits of service, manage coverage areas, and handle payments. If you’re new to ServeManager, don’t worry — we’ll provide full training.

Over time, we’ll grow together, and you’ll soon be offered a regular stream of job opportunities from us.

How much can I make?

How much you make depends on how often you choose to accept jobs that are offered to you and how many jobs are available in your area.

Individual jobs are paid according to our simple payment model:

Base pay

We pay a variable base rate for completing a job depending on location. We’ve divided the U.S. into zones by ZIP code. The more rural the job, the more you’ll be paid.

+

Service level

There are two service levels a customer can choose. Standard jobs are paid at the base rate. Rush jobs are paid extra.

Page count

You’re paid more when the number of pages exceeds 100.

From time to time, we may also offer promotional rates and bonuses, for example for the completion of a new service or in a new area.

How often can I expect to get paid as a contractor?

Contractors are paid upon the completion of each job. Upon approval as a contractor, you’ll be invited to set up your One Legal Wallet within ServeManager. Once a job is completed, we’ll promptly deposit your earnings into your Wallet. You can withdraw your funds at any time.

At One Legal, we provide comprehensive support to our contractors. Our in-house team of Document Specialists reviews and dispatches all orders and is available to assist you throughout the order’s lifecycle. After you’ve completed the required fieldwork, we create the proof of service and send it to you for signature. We handle customer inquiries and keep you informed as needed.
